CARMEL SWIM CLUB TO LAUNCH OPERATION WATER SAFETY 2010
Teaching Children How to Respect and Enjoy the Water – Just in Time for Summer!
What:Operation Water Safety is a campaign designed and launched in 2007 by the Aquatic Alliance of Greater Indianapolis (AAGI) to help children ages six to twelve learn basic swimming skills and water safety practices.This is a free one-day program.
Why: Drowning is one of the major causes of accidents resulting in serious injury and death in children.“This program is especially important as summer approaches,” said Tony Young, Sport Development Director with Indiana Swimming.“Not only is swimming an important survival skill, but it is a wonderful way to stay healthy for life.”
When: OWS will take place on Saturday, April 24th from 2:00 – 3:30pm at the Carmel Aquatic Center.Registration is free, but spaces are limited.
Where: The Carmel Swim Club will offer this year’s Operation Water Safety kick-off on April 24 at the Carmel Aquatic Center at Carmel High School.Enter off Smokey Row Road south of the football stadium.The pool is at the top of the hill on the northeast side of the school.
*Bring a swimsuit and towel for water session
*Optional parent session will be conducted in the pool observation area
*Financial aid applications for swim lessons will be available
How: Operation Water Safety counselors will educate youngsters about the importance of water safety through practical experience.Participants will engage in activities both on land and in the water, learning how to be safe, confident and joyful in and around the water.
