NEW SWIM OFFICIALS CLINIC
TUESDAY EVENING
MARCH 4, 2003
6:00 P.M. 7:30 P.M.
Any Carmel Swim Club parent who would like to have the opportunity to learn about what is involved in becoming a USA Swimming Official will have that chance on Tuesday, March 4, from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. at the high school Natatorium. You can bring your swimmer(s) to practice and while they are in the water, you will be able to find out what is involved in performing this very important function not only for the swimmers in our club, but for all of the swimmers who participate in our meets.
The clinicians for this one evening session will be Carmel Swim Club Referees Bill Koss and Chuck Weinkauf. They will show a short video on the finer points of swimming officiating and will do their best to answer any of your questions about officiating and the responsibilities that go with it.
One of the many advantages of swim officiating, besides being right down on the deck where all the action is taking place, besides being an important part of helping to see that all the kids are swimming in a “level pool”, and besides being able to wear those neat blue and white uniforms, is the fact that it is a fabulous way to work the required sessions we as parents have the responsibility for at each of the four meets our club sponsors each year.
Among the many important things you will learn at the clinic is where the phrase “will work for food” originated.
A very important thing to remember as you contemplate becoming a swim official is that “officials do not disqualify swimmers”, “swimmers disqualify themselves”. Officials are part of the process that helps swimmers so that they don't disqualify themselves again.
If you find out from attending the clinic that you are interested and ready to go forward, all of the material for getting started will be available that evening.
If you have any questions you can call Chuck Weinkauf at 846-4264 or E-mail him at cwweinkauf@aol.com
