Senior News

Congratulations to several of the Carmel Swim Club High School Seniors on their respective college selection.  Cassie Herr and Julia DiBenigno were accepted into Columbia University in New York City.  Both Cassie and Julia are planning on swimming for the Ivy League school next year.  Lauren Merek received a swimming scholarship to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.  Melissa Dere was accepted into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  Other CSC high school seniors that are still waiting to decide on college include Andrew Albright, Matt Belcher, Kristine Brook, Kelly Carlberg, Matt Graham, Cristina Gutierrez, Sara Strobel and Mike Unger.

The top championship goal meet for the CSC Senior Group will be the National Club Swimming Coaches Association 2002 USA Junior National Championships, being held March 26-30, 2002 at the Belmont Olympic Plaza Pool in Long Beach California.  The following CSC team members have the Junior National cutoff times for this meet: Andrew Albright, Taylor Baughman, Matt Belcher, Nicole Collins, Jason Cousins, Julia

DiBenigno, Mark Enoch, Kiley Gooch, Cassie Herr, Lauren Merek, Alyssa Rosinko, Erin Sparks, Grant Wieczorek and Mike Unger.  We expect many more swimmers to qualify with the high school championship meets, age group state and senior state all coming up in the next couple of months.  If you are interested in going and haven't already been contacted, please let us know.

The final goal meet for the senior swimmers not qualified for the Junior National Championships, will be the 2002 Indiana Senior State Championships.  That meet is being held March 1-3, 2002 at IUPUI.  The Indiana Age Group State Championships is being held March 15-17, 2002 at IUPUI, while the Semi-State Championships are being held February 22-24, 2002 at Noblesville HS.

The Carmel HS Aquatic Center is renting out the pool to the Great Lakes YMCA Zone Championships, being held March 15-17, 2002.  It should be a great showcase for the CHS Aquatic Center since there will be around 1000 swimmers from all over YMCA teams from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.

As we prepare for some of our big upcoming taper meets, swimmers are reminded to take advantage of the reduced practice time.  Everyone is encouraged to rest, catch-up on school work, etc.  Swimmers should not use their extra energy to stay up late, run around with friends, etc.  Remember, we are preparing both mentally and physically for something that each swimmer has worked for all season.  It is important to stay smart and focused as the championship meets approach.  Best of luck and we look forward to some fast swimming coming up.

We're looking forward to an exciting 2002 Carmel Swim Club Winter Invitational.  The meet is filled up to capacity with 1200 swimmers representing some of the best programs from the Midwest and across the United States.  This is a great showcase for our program and Indianapolis.  Please do your best to show the utmost in hospitality to the visiting teams.

Parents and swimmers, thanks for a great season so far.  We are looking forward to some awesome moments to come!

Stingray Stories

100% of the practices.  Ruth Koss, Katie McRoberts, and Max Enoch get the 100% award for the two weeks.
The Stingrays championship
meet season is coming around the bend at 200 miles an hour and with the training and focus they have had this season I look forward to some great things.  Some of the swimmers will competing at the Ribbon Thrower, some at Semi-State, some at State, and at least one has the chance to go on to Junior Nationals.  I expect to see some fantastic swims at the end of this season and for many seasons to come.
