FAST TIMES AT AGE GROUP STATE!
Carmel Swim Club is proud to recognize our 105 athletes
who were a part of our 2010 Age Group State Championship Team. Together, these individuals
combined their efforts over July 23-25 to race to a third place
team finish. CSC
swimmers were not only impressive in their performances in the
pool, but also in their team spirit and camaraderie demonstrated on
the pool deck throughout the entire weekend.
We would also
like to specially thank all of our parent volunteers who worked so
hard to ensure the meet ran smoothly. Hosting a championship meet is no
easy task, but our CSC parents proved they were up to the challenge
and put on a fantastic event. Feedback from other programs has
been exceedingly positive. From the professionalism of our
volunteers, to the delicious and abundant offerings in hospitality,
and the countless hours worked, the dedication and generosity in
time and spirit of Carmel Swim Club parents was a tremendous
hallmark of our organization.
Top to bottom
Carmel had an outstanding meet. Nearly all of our swimmers had
lifetime best times during the weekend, and our swimmers continued
to drop time in finals. There was no doubt that finals
time was Carmel time.
Our swimmers raced tough, moved up from their seeds, and had some
seriously fast swims.
For the third Age
Group State Meet in a row, the Carmel 10 and Under Girls turned in
a dominating performance. Led by team victories in both the
200 Free Relay (Kelly Pash, Katie Dougherty, Grace Pangburn, and
Trude Rothrock) and the 200 Medley Relay (Lydia Yao, Trude
Rothrock, Kelly Pash, and Grace Pangburn) the ladies were
unstoppable! On her
way to the 10 and Under Girls High Point Award, Trude Rothrock won
five individual events (50, 100, 200 Free; 50 and 100 Breast) and
was runner up in the 200 IM. Notably, Trude’s
performance in the 200 Free was a new Carmel Swim Club record
(2:26.11). Kelly Pash
turned in six top-16 performances (50 and 100 Back, 50 and 100 Fly,
100 Breast, and 200 IM) and Lydia Yao also scored in several events
(50 and 100 Back, 50 and 100 Breast, and 100 Fly). Katie Dougherty and Nyssa Qiao
tallied top-16 finishes in the 50 Back and 100 Fly
respectively.
The 10 and Under
Boys turned in several strong performances. Led by multiple top-16 finishes
from a trio of nine year olds, the future of our CSC boys looks
bright. Zach Wilson
(50 Free), Patrick Cavanaugh (50 Breast, 100 Breast), and Chris
Brunory (50 Breast, 50 and 100 Fly) led the charge and combined
their efforts with Brett Sherman for a fourth-place finish in the
200 Free Relay and a third place finish in the 200 Medley
Relay.
It was a total
team effort for the 11-12 Girls: nine different individuals placed
in the top-16 and multiple relays scored in each event. The 200 Medley A Relay Team of
Becky Flaherty, Veronica Burchill, Caroline Schultz, and Morgan
Grout stormed the podium with a third-place finish. The 200 Medley C Relay of Sammie
Burchill, Meaghan Mahoney, Kayleigh Hughes, and Katie Schlies
captured thirteenth, while the B Relay of Claire Adams, Abigail
Brunory, Claudia Shelbourn, and Jillian Satz scored fifteenth. The 200 Free A Relay Team
of Jillian Satz, Morgan Grout, Caroline Schultz, and Veronica
Burchill placed second, while the 200 Free B Relay team of Claire
Adams, Abigail Brunory, Claudia Shelbourn, and Katie Schlies placed
fourteenth. Veronica
Burchill paced CSC’s individual 11-12 Girls
performances. Veronica
was the 11-12 Girls 50 Butterfly State Champion and also had
top-eight finishes in the 50 Free, 50 Back, 50 and 100 Breast, and
100 Fly. Caroline
Schultz scored in both butterfly events; Becky Flaherty and Claire
Adams placed very well in both backstroke events; and Meaghan
Mahoney, Katie Schlies, and Abigail Brunory finished in the top-16
in both breaststroke events. Morgan Grout turned in strong
performances with her top-16 finishes in the 400 Free and 200 IM
and Jillian Satz was an crucial contributor with her finals swims
in the 50 Breast and 200 IM.
Troy Li stepped
up as a great leader for the 11-12 Boys. Troy was a championship finalist
in the 200 Free and 200 IM; a consolation finalist in the 100 Back
and 100 Breast; and scored in the top-16 in the 400 Free. Joining Troy scoring
eleventh in the 200 Medley Relay were Jonas Raguse, Matt Han, and
Joey Vinyard. The
quartet rallied to score again in the 200 Free Relay, placing
thirteenth.
Championship
performances from Summer Brown in both the 200 and 400 Free set the
tone for a fantastic 13-14 Girls squad. Summer also placed in the
top-eight in the 50, 100, 800, and 1500 Free. Claudia Sherman had a very strong
showing in the butterfly events—finishing as runner-up in the
100 and third place in the 200 – and also placed in the
top-16 in four other events (200, 400, 800, and 1500 Free). Shelby Spitz and Taite
Kitchel scored in the top-16 in five events apiece. Shelby made the podium in the 800
and 1500 Free and also scored in the 400 Free, 200 IM, and 400
IM. Taite won her
consolation heat in the 200 Back, took ninth in the 1500 Free, and
hit the top eight in the 100 Fly and 200 and 400 IM. Natalie Nichols was strong in
both breaststrokes, scoring in the top-16 in each; and Anna Katsis
also placed in the top-16 in the 200 Breast. The 13-14 Girls relays all turned
in strong performances. CSC girls were runner-ups in all
four relays (200 and 400 Medley – Kitchel, Nichols, Sherman,
and Brown; 200 Free – Kitchel, Sherman, Katsis, and Brown;
400 Free – Kitchel, Spitz, Sherman, and Brown) and scored a B
Relay in each event as well (200 and 400 Medley – Nikki
Skowronek, Katsis, Spitz, and Tiffany Han; 200 Free –
Nichols, Han, Skowronek, and Spitz; 400 Free – Nichols, Han,
Skowronek, and Katsis).
Rounding our
Carmel’s performance at the meet were great swims from our
13-14 Boys. Strong
team showings in the relays included a runner-up finish for the 400
Free Relay (Reilly Garman, Glen Brown, Nate Slack, and Mitch
Cooper), a tenth-place finish for the B (Zach Johns, Spencer Satz,
Alex Stacy, and Matt Vinyard), a fourth-place finish in the 200
Free Relay (Garman, Brown, Slack, Cooper), a thirteenth-place
finish for the B (Johns, Ben Burdick, Vinyard, and Satz), and a
fourth and fifth-place finish in the 400 and 200 Medley Relays,
respectively (Slack, Derek Stauder, Cooper, and Brown). Mitch Cooper led the way in
individual events with four top-eight finishes (100 Free, 100 and
200 Fly, 200 IM) and two additional top-sixteen swims (200 Free and
200 Back). Reilly
Garman was strong in the freestyle events, racking up points in the
200, 400, and 1500 Freestyles. Spencer Satz had a fantastic meet
and scored in the 1500 Free, 200 Fly, and 400 IM. Placing in the top-16 in two
events each were Glen Brown (400 Free, 100 Fly), Matt Vinyard (1500
Free, 200 Fly), and Derek Stauder (100 and 200 Breast).
Congratulations
to all of our Carmel swimmers, parents, and coaches on an
outstanding Age Group State Meet!
