Carmel Swim Club Hires Ian Murray as Head Age Group Coach

Carmel, Indiana - Carmel Swim Club is pleased to announce the addition of Ian Murray as Head Age Group coach for the 2006-2007 swimming season.  Murray comes to Carmel after six years on the staff of the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins in suburban Cleveland, Ohio, where he coached the 11-14 age group with the title Elite Age Group and Senior Coach.

At Carmel, Murray will serve as the Stingray group coach, essentially preparing middle school athletes for their transition to high school and senior age group swimming, as well as oversee the administration and coaching of the club's younger age groups.

"The Carmel Swim Club has long history of success at the Age Group and Senior level," Murray said, "and I hope to help continue that tradition of excellence."

At Lake Erie, Murray was honored as the 2005-2006 Lake Erie Age Group Coach of the Year.

“Ian brings a tremendous wealth of knowledge from Lake Erie Silver Dolphins being that they are a Gold Medal Club with a storied history of producing world class athletes,” said Carmel Head Coach Chris Plumb.  “Ian has a terrific amount of passion and knowledge for the sport of swimming and will be a great leader for our age group program.”

Murray served as the Lake Erie Zone team head coach in 2004 and as the head coach of Ohio's team in the 2002 Mid-States Quad all star meet.  At Lake Erie, he coached eight age group swimmers to National Top 16 rankings, as well as contributed to the development of four USA Swimming National Team members and an Olympic medalist.

“We are very excited to add a coach of Ian’s caliber to the Carmel Swim Club coaching staff,” Plumb added.

"I am extremely excited to a part of the Carmel Swim Club, and look forward to working with Head Coach Chris Plumb and his entire staff," Murray said.

Murray is a graduate of Cleveland State University, where he captained the swim team in the 1999-2000 season.
